That's a wrap on Week 1!

Welcome Class of 2027!

The Coughlan Fourthies are into the swing of things and had an amazing week!

The girls used mentimeter.com to answer a question. See below for the Word Cloud that was generated.

What are you looking forward to the most in 4th Grade?
The girls reflected on last year and set some goals for this year. The trials and tribulations of a squirrel helped them understand the value of persevering and the importance of lending a helping hand. These two ideas will be interwoven into everything we do this year!

We jumped right into Wordly Wise, and I even threw in a quick discussion on prefixes, suffixes, and greek and latin roots! I believe it is so important for the girls to know that each word can be broken up into parts and each part has a specific meaning associated with it. The girls won't be tested on greek and latin roots, but I will be occasionally including these concepts in our weekly Wordly Wise in-class lessons.

For math this week, we explored "Mindful Maths"on the Fourthies website (ask you daughter about this). We also did an interactive whiteboard lesson on place value from our Singapore Math program, and we reviewed how to write larger numbers in standard, written, and expanded form. The girls loved using their individual dry-erase boards and working in partners in their math workbooks.

The girls received several passwords to the many educational websites that we use. Thank you for signing the Acceptable Use form. We started a virtual scavenger hunt, and the girls are already pros at navigating the Fourthie Site. Also, I just received some additional information about how to get on the Storybird website. Mrs. McCallum mentioned the girls need to log in using this password: B83M5 and then change it to daisy2027. I know the girls are excited to begin using this site.

The student ambassadors (Maeve and Harper) have been raising and lowering the flag and helping out wherever needed. We will have a weekly photographer. Sirena will have the job for 2 weeks, since we are still getting into the habit of grabbing the class iPad to take pictures! The girls love the flexible seating options we have in the classroom. They will rotate through the different options and everyone will get a chance to sit on the wobble stools and enjoy the black and purple comfy chairs:)
